Having been beaten into Turn 1 at the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA 2021 in an elbows-out move from Verstappen, Hamilton played the long game. When his rival pitted once, hoping he could manage his tyres to the end, the Briton pitted twice. He still had 22 seconds to make up when he emerged from his final pitstop, but he closed in and rounded the Red Bull Racing Honda car into the first turn before driving off to win.
