Verstappen had endured a difficult qualifying session and started the grid on P9. He was soon racing through the pack, however, pushing his tyres to the max to complete a series of fine moves to race into P1. With ten laps to go, and with Verstappen second only to teammate Sergio Perez he launched his attack.
